Description

“Twelve Nights In Hollywood” is a live album by the American jazz vocalist Ella Fitzgerald, originally recorded in 1961 at the Crescendo Club in Hollywood, Los Angeles over ten nights in May 1961, and a subsequent pair of performances in June 1962.

All of her hallmarks (technical wizardry, breakneck scatting, irrepressible humor and warmth) are on full display, with a small but expressive quartet backing her performance, including pianist Lou Levy, guitarist Herb Ellis, drummer Gus Johnson, and bassist Wilfred Middlebrooks.

Verve label-head Norman Granz recorded each of Ella’s sets between May 11th and 21st, 1961, at the Crescendo — 75 songs — plus a fourth disc consisting of a 1962 return date back at the Crescendo.

The set contains extensive liner notes by former Verve producer and executive Richard Seidel, detailed annotations, rare photos, and specially commissioned album cover art by Hall of Fame illustrator Bart Forbes.
