Description

“Telephone Line / Poorboy” is a single by The Electric Light Orchestra from 1977. Telephone Line was recorded in July 1976, and according to Jeff Lynne: The telephone ringing was actually played on a Moog synthesizer. From England, they dialed a number in the USA.

Richard Tandy then tuned the oscillators to the same two notes as the ringing phone. And no, nobody answered, just like in the song.
