“Zappa In New York 40th Anniversary Edition” in celebration of its release in 1978, features all-analog mastering of the original album mix which has been unavailable since it was first issued. Plus an additional LP of select bonus content from The Vault and new liner notes from Ruth Underwood, Ray White and Joe Travers.

The album features a variety of rock and jazz-rock tracks. A few of these had appeared in different arrangements on previous Zappa records, while most songs were entirely new. Backing musicians include a full horn section, containing members of the Saturday Night Live band, including Lou Marini and Tom Malone, as well as the Brecker Brothers.
