Description
Blade Runner (Soundtrack) was originally composed by Vangelis for Ridley Scott’s 1982 film Blade Runner. It is mostly a dark, melodic combination of classical composition and synthesizers which mirrors the futuristic film noir envisioned by Scott. The official release of this version of the soundtrack version was delayed until 1994.
An orchestral rendition of part of the Blade Runner soundtrack was first released in 1982 by the New American Orchestra on Full Moon Records. Billed as an “orchestral adaptation of music composed for the motion picture by Vangelis”, this release consisted of jazz-inspired, orchestrated renditions of the major tracks from the film, but not the original score tracks and was disowned by both Vangelis and director Scott.
This is the version presented here.
Personnel: Jack Elliot (conductor); Patrick Williams, Eddie Karam, Angela Morley (arrangers); Johh Bahler (vocals); Tommy Tedesco, Dan Ferguson (guitar); Endre Granat (concertmaster); Tom Scott (alto saxophone); Chuck Findley (flugelhorn); Bill Watrous (trombone); Michael Lang (piano, Fender Rhodes); Richard Tee (piano); Ian Underwood (synthesizer); Neil Stubenhaus (bass); Steve Schaeffer (drums); Diana Lee, Debbie Hall, Sandie Hall (background vocals). Original score composed by Vangelis. Lyrics written by Peter Skellern.
“This album contains a somewhat unsatisfying orchestral rerecording of Vangelis’s original electronic score. Unfortunately this was the only recording available until the 1994 release of the official Blade Runner soundtrack.” ~ Bruce Eder
