Description
“Mingus Ah Um” is a legendary jazz album recorded in 1959 by Charles Mingus. The album as been called “an extended tribute to Mingus’s musical forbearers, with songs like “Goodbye Pork Pie Hat” (Lester Young), “Jelly Roll” (Jelly Roll Morton), and “Open Letter To Duke” (Duke Ellington).
“Mingus Ah Um” was one of fifty recordings chosen by the Library of Congress to be added to the National Recording Registry in 2003. Features: John Handy III, Booker Ervin, Danny Richmond, Horace Parlan.
