After the success of the movie “West Side Story”, Columbia changed the original title from, “Bernstein Plays Brubeck Plays Bernstein” to “The Dave Brubeck Quartet Plays Music From West Side Story“. However the label decided to retain the contemporary Howard Brubeck compositions that the quartet had originally performed with the New York Philharmonic on side one.

Subsequent releases of this title on CD dropped the orchestral pieces in favor of more of Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story songs, effectively putting side one of this recording out of print.
