“New Bag For Steel Band”\u00a0<\/em><\/strong> is the third record album of the United States Navy Steel Band<\/strong>, led by Skip Poole<\/strong> and coordinated by Rene Cazenave<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0US Navy Steel Band<\/b>\u00a0was the first all-American and military-only\u00a0steel band<\/a>. It was organized in 1957 by\u00a0Rear Admiral<\/a>\u00a0Daniel V. Gallery<\/a>, from the band assigned to him while he was commander of the Tenth Naval District in\u00a0San Juan<\/a>,\u00a0Puerto Rico<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The band was originally called Admiral Dan’s Pandemonaics<\/em> and this remained as a subname after they became the US Navy Steel Band. The band was stationed in Puerto Rico until 1973, when they moved to\u00a0New Orleans, LA<\/a>. From there, stationed at the\u00a0Naval Support Activity Base<\/a>\u00a0in the\u00a0Algiers<\/a>\u00a0section of New Orleans, they increased their performance schedule.<\/p>\n

Between 1973 and 1979 alone the band traveled over a million and a half miles, and performed as many as 500 concerts a year. They were disbanded in 1999.<\/p>\n

Their first recording, in 1957, under the direction of Chief Musician Charles A. Roeper, on the Decca label, was an LP called “Pan-Demonia”.\u00a0<\/sup>Among their other recordings are an LP called “Blowin’ in the Wind”\u00a0<\/i>\u00a0that was co-issued by the Puerto Rico Council and the U. S. Navy League; it features numerous popular songs of the day and some traditional Puerto Rican songs (all instrumentals).<\/p>\n
