“In Concert”<\/em><\/strong> is a live double album, recorded by Derek and the Dominos<\/strong> in October 1970 at the Fillmore East and released January 1973.<\/p>\n

Derek and the Dominos<\/b>\u00a0were a\u00a0blues rock<\/a>\u00a0band formed in the spring of 1970 by guitarist and singer\u00a0Eric Clapton<\/a>, keyboardist and singer\u00a0Bobby Whitlock<\/a>, bassist\u00a0Carl Radle<\/a>\u00a0and drummer\u00a0Jim Gordon<\/a>. All four members had previously played together in\u00a0Delaney & Bonnie and Friends<\/a>, during and after Clapton\u2019s brief tenure with\u00a0Blind Faith<\/a>.\u00a0Dave Mason<\/a>\u00a0supplied additional lead guitar on early studio sessions and played at their first live gig. Another participant at their first session as a band was\u00a0George Harrison<\/a>, the recording for whose album\u00a0All Things Must Pass<\/a><\/i>\u00a0marked the formation of Derek and the Dominos.<\/p>\n

The band released only one studio album,\u00a0Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs<\/a><\/i>, produced by\u00a0Tom Dowd<\/a>, which also featured notable contributions on\u00a0slide guitar<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0Duane Allman<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A double album,\u00a0\u201cLayla\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>went on to receive critical acclaim, but initially faltered in sales and in radio airplay. Although released in 1970 it was not until March 1972 that the album\u2019s single\u00a0\u201cLayla<\/a>\u201c<\/em>\u00a0(a tale of\u00a0unrequited love<\/a>\u00a0inspired by Clapton\u2019s relationship with his friend Harrison\u2019s wife,\u00a0Pattie Boyd<\/a>) made the top ten in both the United States and the United Kingdom. The album is often considered to be the defining achievement of Eric Clapton\u2019s career.<\/p>\n
