“<\/em>Raw Velvet”<\/strong> is the second solo album by American songwriter and musician Bobby Whitlock, released in 1972.<\/p>\n

Robert Stanley “Bobby” Whitlock<\/b><\/em>\u00a0(born March 18, 1948 in Memphis Tennessee) is an American singer, songwriter and musician. He is best known as a member of the blues-rock band Derek and the Dominoes<\/strong><\/em>, with Eric Clapton<\/strong><\/em>, in 1970\u201371.<\/p>\n

Whitlock’s musical career began at Stax Records<\/strong> with Memphis soul acts such as\u00a0Sam and Dave<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and Booker T. and the MG’s<\/strong><\/em>, before he joined Delaney and Bonnie and Friends<\/strong><\/em> in 1968.<\/p>\n

His association with Delaney & Bonnie bandmate Eric Clapton led to Whitlock’s participation in sessions for George Harrison’s<\/strong><\/em> 1970 triple album “All Things Must Pass”<\/strong>\u00a0<\/i>and the formation of Derek and the Dominos that year. On the band’s sole studio album, the critically acclaimed “Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs”<\/strong><\/i>, Whitlock wrote or co-wrote seven of the album’s fourteen tracks, including “Tell The Truth”<\/strong>, “Anyday”<\/strong> and “Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
