He is among the most influential and acclaimed figures in the history of jazz and 20th Century music. Miles was instrumental in the evolution of Jazz from \u201cBop\u201d with innovators such as <strong>Charlie Parker<\/strong> through \u201cpost Bop\u201d with the likes of <strong>Gerry Mulligan, Thelonious Monk<\/strong>and <strong>John Coltrane<\/strong>, on into modal jazz with his \u201cClassic Quartet\u201d featuring Coltrane, <strong>Julian \u201cCannonball\u201d Adderley<\/strong>, and piano legend <strong>Bill Evans<\/strong> showcased in the seminal album <strong><em>Kind Of Blue.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Later, with formation of his so-called \u201cSecond Great Quartet\u201d Miles would experiment with avant-guard jazz, exploring rhythms and textures created by what many critics feel is the greatest group of improvisers ever assembled which included the astonishing <strong>Tony Williams<\/strong> on drums, composer-pianist <strong>Herbie Hancock,<\/strong> composer-saxophonist <strong>Wayne Shorter<\/strong>, and <strong>Ron Carter<\/strong> on bass.<\/p>\n<p>It is with this great ensemble that Miles would go on originate the sound that would be called \u201cjazz-fusion\u201d, collaborating with these four and other musicians such as <strong>Mahavishnu John McLaughlin, Chic Corea, Josef Zawinul, Keith Jarrett, David Holland<\/strong>, and <strong>Jack DeJohnette<\/strong>, to name a few.<\/p>\n<p>It has been said that jazz was invented by Louis Armstrong; refined by Duke Ellington; and taken into the stratosphere by Miles Davis.
