To the best of our knowledge, “First Meditations (for Quartet)” was John Coltrane’s final studio recording with the Classic Quartet, widely regarded as one of the greatest groups in all of jazz history.
“First Meditations” is a quartet version of Coltrane’s “Meditations” suite which Coltrane would record two months later, with the additions of Pharoah Sanders as a second tenor saxophone and Rashied Ali on drums.
